When I was a girl, we knew the shed on The Causeway as the local council depot and Cumbria County Council used it to store the Council wagon. It had housed the areas' Steam Roller in the 1960s and in the early 1970's for road maintenance. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find much information about our Roller Shed but by the early ’80s, the Steam Roller had ceased operations.
My husband and I were lucky enough to purchase the “Shed” in 2009 with all the intentions of using it for storage but as the building started to decay, we decided we had to bring it back to life! I hope you will agree that a unique and modern transformation has taken place whilst retaining the charm of the old building.
In 2019 we purchased and rebuilt The Old Hay Shed just around the corner. This was an extremely small, tired and rundown property with no garden or parking and needed a lot of love! Primarily bought to give our children a future home in the village, but the immediate aim was to create another modern, luxury property with that little bit of added character.
